I was once a child young and free
Not captured by the knowing of the unseen
Kids today don't know what it's like to be
Knowing the world at such a young age
They think they know the way
Burdened by the parents inability to teach
Pulled down by society as they reach
Captured by the deception of perfection they are enslaved
They don't realize they are walking towards a grave
Not knowing the freedom of climbing a tree
Or the scrapping of a knee
Beaten down thinking it's protection
They can't seem to understand the parents perception
Drugs and alcohol is how to be cool
When I think it's nothing but cruel
Not caring about what used to be formal
Cursing at the teachers is the new normal
acting Twenty when they are only twelve,
perhaps because their parents are thinking only of themselves.
Kids grow up too fast, a childhood doesn't seem to last.
