Light Poem by Clare Murgor

Light

He could only see light
Not clearly illuminated
But beautiful,
Beautifully bright
Beautifully blur

The water was all he knew
Drowning was just part of him
Part of the life he lived
Part of the happiness he thought he had
He was not sad
He was not as happy
He wanted to see the light he thought he saw above
He rose up

There she always was
Alone,
Seated,
Eyes tired from the tears
She could see her reflection
Beautifully broken through the waves of the water
She could only hope

But then,
She bent down to wash off her eyes
And she could only feel the warmth she longed for
She could only let her self love for the second she thought it was a dream
She felt safe

He got up and the light got brighter
He felt warmth he had never felt
A touch that was as though his body longed
He felt a surge of warmth over him as though the rain had washed away his sins
And suddenly the drowning became something he longed to forget for a second

Would life be as beautiful?
