Lime Tree Poem by Mary Champion

Lime Tree

When I came here I was drawn to plant this tree
in the fertile loam at the edge of the path.
Given the prevailing climate,
some were wary of my venture,
leading them to query my optimism.
But in time I was rewarded
with its delicate white flowers,
each giving birth to a succulent lime.
