Where shall I find You, father?
Why did you depart so early, my father,
before the final whistle had fallen silent,
before I could lift the cup
and place its golden light
at your feet?
How shall I walk this earth
when the one who taught my feet to walk
has gone beyond the roads of men?
You were there
before the world knew my name...
You stood beside my victories
when victory was still only a distant dream...
You stood beside my bitter childhood,
when the days were heavy
and the nights knew the language of tears.
You knew the rooms of our suffering,
the long corridors of treatment,
the trembling arithmetic of financial hardship,
the quiet prayers we whispered
when there was little left
but hope.
And still, you believed.
When I fell,
your faith lifted me.
When I succeeded,
your eyes became my celebration.
When the world applauded me,
I searched for you
among the faces.
For what is a victory
if the eyes of the father
are not there to receive it?
Then came the great journey.
From the first match of the 2026 World Cup,
through the long road of the group stage,
through every battle that followed,
through the knockouts,
the pre-quarter,
the quarter,
and onward toward the final,
in every stadium,
beneath every flood of light,
inside every breath before the whistle,
I looked for you.
Somewhere within me
I kept a sacred seat for you...
I imagined you arriving
as you had arrived before,
to pray for me,
to bless me,
to give me courage
without saying a word...
I imagined the final moment:
my hands raising the trophy,
my eyes searching the stands,
and there you would be,
my father,
smiling.
I would have brought the cup to you
as a son brings the first harvest
to the hands that planted the seed.
But the seat remained empty.
And no emptiness
has ever been so full of you
father,
For the greatest trophy
I ever wished to hold
was not made of gold.
It was your hand.
Where have you gone, father?
Is death truly a departure,
or merely a door
through which love passes
into a country unseen?
If there is a heaven above the heavens,
if the stars are windows
and eternity has eyes,
then look down upon me.
Be with me
as you were before...
When I walk onto the field,
walk beside me.
When fear enters my heart,
whisper courage.
When joy finds me,
smile.
When I raise my eyes to the sky,
let me believe
that somewhere beyond the blue
your eyes are still upon me...
Our little dreams are still here, father.
Our family is still here.
Your chair is still here.
Your memories are still here.
And I,
I am still here,
though a part of me
has followed you
into the silence.
Sometimes my mind whispers:
"How can I continue without him? "
But perhaps you have not left me.
Perhaps you have only changed
the place from which you watch.
Once,
you watched me from the edge of the field.
Now,
perhaps you watch me
from the edge of eternity.
Once,
your voice reached me
through the noise of the stadium.
Now,
perhaps I must hear you
through the silence of my soul.
So I will continue, father.
Not because the wound has closed,
but because your love
has become the road beneath my feet.
I will carry you
into every match,
into every victory,
into every failure,
into every dawn that asks me
to rise again.
And when the final whistle of my own life
one day sounds,
perhaps I will look toward that unseen stadium,
and there you will be,
waiting.
No crowd.
No cameras.
No trophies.
Only you and me.
And I will run to you
as the child I once was,
and place my tired head
upon your heart.
Then, father,
no World Cup will matter.
No victory will matter.
No earthly glory will matter.
For I will have found
the greatest home
I ever knew.
You.
Until then,
stay near me
from wherever love goes
when the body can go no farther.
Watch over our family.
Watch over my steps...
My dear father...
