I sense that my detachment is detaching.
The bars around my heart are slowly melting,
dissolving in the tears I can't stop shedding.
I fight against the outcome I am dreading.
I can't abide the thought of people seeing
the strength of the emotions I am feeling.
Can't hide behind the mask that's been concealing
the turmoil in my heart while it's been healing.
I clutch the sphinx-like guise that I've been wearing
now indicating signs that it is slipping.
I fear the possibility of sharing
the maelstrom of passions underlying
the cool, composed exterior I'm losing
now the feelings I've been resolutely hiding
are rising to the surface grimly fighting
for somebody to give them all a hearing.
