Losing The Light Poem by Mary Champion

Losing The Light

Black slate night - empyrean velvet skies
studded with starlight.
Man has yet to blot out their beauty
with his brilliance.
For now the darkness is a perfect foil
to display the jewels of Heaven.

Eons pass -

the lights of heaven are dimmed by
man-made illumination.
We have almost forgotten the glories of the night sky.
We cannot see the stars -
only the raven darkness can be recovered
in black faced slate mines.
