Lost In Blue Poem by Justin Gildow

Lost In Blue

Washed ashore on a deserted island
I wake up and look around me
There's just me, my backpack, this island, and the sea

I know I won't be going home any time soon
So I sling my backpack on my shoulder
And I roam and explore my surroundings in the hot and humid afternoon

As I walk about
I spy a survivor, a girl
Sprawled out across the sand
With a rescue raft docked beside her

She asks me ' Where are we? '
I tell her ' I have no clue '
With our surroundings consisting of a deserted island and a deep blue sea
For all intentions
We're lost in blue

She brushes herself off
And with what we have with us
We take what we have along
As we set out to explore

After a while we reach a lonely cave
And this is where we'll call home
Before we settle in
We gather many twigs for a fire
While knocking down coconuts from palm trees with rocks
And picking fresh fruit that's grown and ripe

Hours and hours later
After collecting twigs, fruit, and other supplies
We work together to start a fire
Which after a few tries, we finally have going

We eat fruit and drink water that we saved and stored
We also store vines, sticks, bamboo, and rocks
Useful for spears, fishing poles, and bows and arrows

Outside the sun is gone
And the stars and the moon are the only things outside now
We look at the stars and moon for a few minutes

Once done
We return to our new found home
And we sit beside each other
In front of the fire

We talk for a little while
Even though we're tired
And even though we're lost in blue
We still have some energy left to smile

As we lay down to sleep
I hope your dreams will be pleasant sweetheart
I certainly hope mine will be

After everything we've gone through today
And with many more days ahead of us
And being lost in blue and all
We can finally sleep and dream away
