Is some roses presented with ribbon tied stems?
or card decorated with flourishing hearts?
or a dinner out at a restaurant you like?
or a heartfelt poem penned with care?
or is it simply looking up and seeing him
across the room fixing that frame
you dropped yesterday?
is it the gentle hand on your back
as he holds the car door for you?
Is it in his eyes
when he speaks about your grandkids?
or the drop dangling from his nose
because he trudged to the mailbox
on a miserable day
to pick up a letter you were expecting?
Love is every day, in every act,
by word or gesture between you.
love is tenderness, sharing and joy.
