Love is not the currency
of ecstasy and torment.
Love is not the ransom
for a kidnapped heart
Love is not the fulcrum
for our levers of coercion
Love is not the catalyst
that tears the mind apart
Love is not the arrow
Cupid fires, without aim
Love is not the plaything of
the martyr’s dying act
Love is not the ignorance
which breeds more of the same
Though love may blur the edges
‘tween the fiction and the fact.
Love is not religion
Nor does science hold its key
Love makes no distinction
whom it touches, where and when.
Love is not a despot
which incarcerates the free
Love is the liberator
and the leveller of men.
