There's poison in this sweet red wine,
No one else can see it but me; there's poison in this sweet red wine.
I could suck it all up
And pretend to never wear laurels,
And pretend to never have been struck with an arrow,
But I wear a righteous crown
Not knowing what the wine is worth.
It's worth much more than sordid indulgence;
It's worth much more than a vile tongue;
Take off that mask from the back of your head,
You have only one face, only one mouth;
We'll neutralize this poison and we'll drink the wine.
The taste is sweet, and though it isn't old,
It makes me tell you things that I never told.
So Many times you've showed me hope that I've begun
To draw the curtains and let in the sun.
Somewhere in the sea you'll see
That Someone poisoned your mind about me.
What we need is to open all doors,
Make it look like we've evened out our scores.
Live like brothers, love like brothers.
Go our ways, yet help each other.
Be an umbrella, be the rain,
Share laughter, share pain.
