When the sun touches the horizon,
it does not die—
it veils itself in the robe of dawn.
This secret I discovered
on the journey of eternity,
cradled in the sheltering embrace
of endless love.
Time forged my flame of longing
into radiance—
gentle, serene, fearless.
Once I trembled before love's decline,
frightened by age, by death;
I thought love, too,
would wither with youth.
No—never!
Love is no captive of time;
it is beyond, spaceless, timeless.
Love has no beginning, no end—
it is the First, it is the Last.
Between lover and Beloved
there is no divide;
the lover is the Beloved,
the Beloved the lover—
all is the Beloved,
and the lover is but the veil.
Then twilight whispered
another eternal secret:
every shadow is the depth of light,
every silence the prelude of song.
This evening is no farewell,
but a herald of abiding.
In the crimson mirror of the sky
I see the ancient vision of love—
the vision that once called
at the dawn of all being:
"Am I not your Lord? "
And my heart, still smiling,
answers as ever:
"Yes, surely, yes."
Love neither changes nor perishes;
it is all radiance, all life.
And when I knew at last
that love is my essence,
my ground, my secret of life—
then I found the peace everlasting.
