I've loved you since we were just kids,
Only you never knew.
It seemed there was always some other
To fascinate you.
I dreamed, when I grew to a man,
I would make you my wife,
But long before that you took off
And right out of my life.

You're the star I've been following longer than I can recall.
As I view the heavens it's you who shines brightest of all.
You're moving in circles that I cannot share
And as I am watching you sparkle up there,
I'm praying that someday you'll take a look down
At this lonely stargazer here on the ground.

I followed you over the seas
To a dazzling land
And there, for a while,
We shared something like I had got planned.
But when I turned round
You had slipped through my fingers once more.
Oh darling, please tell me,
Just what have you been searching for?

And now, when I've found you,
You're just out of reach, yet again;
Somewhere overhead
As I'm speeding along the fast lane.
Sweetheart, if you'd come down an inch
I'd rise miles up above.
If only you'd see
What a man I could be
With your love.
