Maire Rua Poem by Liam ó Comáin

Maire Rua

Stocky and middle aged
with a tweed cap to shade
churning soil revealing
clods glinting

Smelling of oil
in a march field
mumbling an odd curse

A character
capable of matching
most males

Lover of the land
and adept at house work
but ill at ease without the horse
