Man: The Creature Of Contradictions Poem by Mystic Qalandar

Man: The Creature Of Contradictions

Happy — he is human.
Unhappy — still human.
In this very contradiction, his identity thrives.

A treasury of wisdom is human,
yet barren of it is human.

Walking with confidence
through the mystery of existence is human,
yet stumbling, blind to its depths — still human.

Fountainhead of knowledge is human,
and dark mine of ignorance too is human.

Carrying light within his chest is human —
and filling it with fire and smoke is human.

He who pours out boundless love is human,
and he who scorches with the blaze of hatred is human.

He who scripts new chapters of oppression is human,
and he who is the messenger of peace and love is human.

He who stands foremost among those who give is human,
and he who leads among those who take is human.

He who descends into the lowest abyss is human,
and he who rises to touch the highest heavens is human.

Such daring, such courage —
belongs to none but human!
None equals him in his sovereignty as divine viceroy.

Within him live flaws too beyond measure:
he who surpasses even beasts in savagery is human —
and he whose perfections are sovereign is human.

He who stands incomparable in virtue and in ruin is human:
after God, the noblest of all creation is human.

He who passes through a rust-covered mirror is human,
yet he who shines with the polish of truth is human.

In the eye of insight, he carries Jam-e-Jam —
that legendary cup —
where the whole universe is reflected.

And thus he surpasses even the angels,
for he alone contemplates the secret
of his own reality —
and the secret between himself and the Divine.
