Mary Of Agreda Poem by Patrick Fealy

Mary Of Agreda

Mary of Agreda
Deep within her Chapel
she knitted before the Word
Swept up within a holy fire
each precept she observed
Mystic revelations of biblical design
shining from her holiness
with a glimpse of the divine
As visions poured from Mary's soul
the sister wrote them down
laced with threads from in the books
the prophets all had bound
Holy contemplation
so sacred in it's breadth
it burned me just to look at it
I had to catch my breath
She flew across the universe
within her convent prayers
and wandered north of Mexico
where Texas now is there
preaching to the Indians
In her mantle blue
as pretty as a picture
to everyone she knew
Now that I have lived a while
I think I'd like to go
and knee inside her chapel
the one she used to know
and look within her letters
to read between the lines
and contemplate the rest of what
I missed when I was blind
