Medusa Poem by Nicholas Peter

Medusa

A snake signal flare,
bursts from your chest.

Lighting the evening sky,
lunar serpentine distress signal.

I arrive,
but your snakeskin shield,
prevents,
my mongoose bare teeth touch.

A refusal,
Gorgon blood flows,
my body is Perseus,
yours is poison.

Evenly matched,
Athena bless my thoughts,
Poseidon protects you,
a snake-haired beauty,
of which I cannot have.
