A golden bugle rose in the night's mist,
A soldier softly pressed it to his lips,
And the notes of TAPS drifted in the breeze.
More veterans gathered in the cemetery.
In dress attire, they stood at attention.
One held the American flag on an extension.
All saluted the flag, and as the notes died,
An officer stepped forward, 'DISMISSED, ' he cried!
One by one, they faded from his side,
To the roll of drums and the crash of the sea,
These veterans who died to keep our land free.
