Mirror Images Poem by Wendy Moravec

Mirror Images

I used to look in a mirror and see myself

A half-smiling girl with the beat of music in her veins

Happy with her world and who she was

She would laugh with joy for no reason at all.

Now I stand facing myself once more

And the reflection has altered and warped

The girl I see before me is almost opaque

I can see through her face, her heart, her self.

She’s disappearing as I gaze

Almost gone before my eyes.

Now she’s just an outline

Her features barely there.

And one more thing gone wrong

And –POOF! ! -

She’s no longer here.
