Misjudgement Poem by Mary Champion

Misjudgement

Just another mistake I made;
another false positive ID parade;
I picked the wrong man again.
Seems he didn't do it-
so I plead insane.

The prints had been wiped.
There was no DNA.
It was all circumstantial,
but this I must say,
that the photo-fit came very close.
No wonder it's him that I chose.

And you have to admit -
he had form, he had charm
and a string of convictions
as long as your arm.
But his watertight alibi meant
that the case made against him was bent.

But I cannot give up.
I'll keep digging until
I get the right man
and close in for the kill.
And next time there won't be a doubt-
he'll be sentenced to life - with no out.
