Missing In The Mist Poem by Mary Champion

Missing In The Mist

I saw you in the distance,
your outline melting in the morning mist
to the sound of a blackbird's greeting.
I wondered if this accidental tryst
might build a bridge between your heart and mine -
repair the cruel chasm that was wrought
when we both failed to see that what we'd found
was far greater than the trifle we had sought.
