Moments Like These Poem by Carey Lenehan

Moments Like These

Rating: 5.0

Moments like these
A sunny day
Rare as a North Pole flower
Birds alight with song
Celebrate this midday hour
At moments like these
Peace, is a reality

Not the drone of cars
Or the rumble above
of a passing plane
Not the thunder of lorries
Or the stench of a roadside drain
Not one thing
Can steal this moment

Children at rest
Squabbles silenced by heat
Lying asleep in this
perfect moment of absolute peace
Before complaints and needs
Disrupt, or at best
Disturb this perfect day

Heat on my face and hands
Light in my eyes
Summer inside my mood
The winds gentle sigh
No need to move or talk
Just lie here in heat
Skin, gently browning

Tomorrow rain will draw
A blanket cloud of grey
Across the wide and blue
Perfection of this day
And then we will forget
This moment that we knew
This perfect moment we drew

At moments like these,
With reality so far away
With the sun's unhindered heat
Beating down my way
At moments like this
I can honestly say
I love my life
