Mommy Poem by Lydia Thacker

Mommy

Rating: 5.0

Mommy,
I cry out and cling to your hand
You look down at me
Two or three years old
Wearing my snoopy hat
Corderoy pants
Saddle shoes
A small girl
Holding tight
I win a smile
You pick me up
And kiss me
Then head off to work
I play the day away
Before I know it
You've come home
Pulled me on your lap
Reading to me
You are invincible

Mommy,
I cry out as I wake from a dream
You look down at me
From your place on the wall beside my bed
Twenty-Five years old
My hair a mess
Bedclothes wrapped around me
A woman
I envision your smile
Glance at my son
Bend down and kiss him
Then tuck the covers around him
And head to work
He plays the day away
Creating adventures
My day drags
But finally I come home
Pull him on my lap
And read to him
I know I'm not invincible
But I pray he is
