Money - Poem by Richard Allen Beevor

It would be fair to say money has ruined my life,
although I have never pursued wealth
and only considered what I might do with riches,
somehow this malignant creature called money
has been able to invade my mind
and create untold havoc with its insidious creeping
that calls for this or that to be obtained,
until now I stand on the edge of homelessness
simply because I wanted a home and peace,
a place to live as happily as possible,
a home to retire to now I'm old
but money that should have been available
become invisible for reasons not laid out here
and so the struggle began
long days and nights of work
instead of long days of happy rest,
till at last I stand (better sit) ,
66 years old and in trouble with money,
the creature from the deep,
the God of this driven world,
the power that corrupts
and the power that destroys,
it can kill your dreams
easier than it can create them,
can those who run our lives,
those who have money, run banks,
can they ease the burden,
No!
The solution is if you can't pay,
then they increase the amount to pay,
surely at last we have a way to control population growth,
if you don't die from the stress!
Then you'll die from the O.D!
Three cheers for money,
the final solution moved from Hitler
to the world of finance,
rest assured they have our best interests at heart
and their 'Interest' even closer!

I never pursued money,
used it as a friend,
to get the meagre desires of life.
I never chased wealth
but still it swallowed my life,
destroying hope and dream.
