The daily bread that keeps the wolf from the door.
The readies that come to hand and save the day.
The coin in the can of a good cause.
The dough that rises until ten men own half the world's wealth.
The green stuff of corruption.
The brass mired in muck.
The legal tender looted by the larcenous.
The lolly that sucks the human warmth from our relationships.
The wonga that attracts too much interest.
The rhino prized for its aphrodisiac effects.
The dosh, the shekels, the filthy lucre,
The funds, the dibs, the ackers, the moolah.
The money that makes the world go round.
The stories we tell that turn worthless metal,
Plastic, paper, sea shells, salt and cows,
Rice, houses and bits in a computer memory
Into something to live by - to live for…
To kill for!
