Monitored, For Good Reasons Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Monitored, For Good Reasons

A hand that reaches out to guide,
To keep a steady pace,
Can sometimes feel like heavy weight
In this open, quiet space.

You watch the path that I must walk,
You check to see I'm near,
You think you're holding up a light
To chase away the fear.

But eyes that follow every step,
Though filled with love and care,
Can turn a wide and open world
Into a narrow snare.

I need to learn to find my way,
To stumble on my own,
For even with the kindest guards,
I want to be alone.
