Monsters In My Head Poem by Gwendolyn Rivers

Monsters In My Head

Sometimes if you're sad enough,
You think it will always be this rough.
The monsters follow close behind,
You feel like you have lost your mind.
All you hear are shrieks and groans,
They rip your flesh from off your bones.
They circle round and stare you down,
They call you weak while you drown.
Your chest burns for want of air,
It feels like far too much to bear.
From your eye falls a single tear,
They say you're defeated by your fear.
These monsters come from within,
They laugh as they wear you thin.
You are the monster haunting dreams,
You must fight those silent screams.
If you don't you'll wind up dead,
You must fight the monsters in your head.
