Morning Prayer Poem by Pleasant Dabbs

Morning Prayer

May I, like the artist
Take the pencil from your hand
And begin to sketch an outline
Of my day and the hours planned

That I first might serve my family
And all my neighbors and my friends
Like the top notch restaurant serves cuisine
To the fine guests who enter in

May I never say a bad word
Or spread gossip or tell a lie
Like the press, the news, the magazines
And the media announcers try

May I sacrifice for others
As your Son did for all of us
And confirm by my holdings and my time
So they my word, can always trust

And oh Lord may I be humble
And take no credit on my part
But let my acts serve as evidence
Of my love for you and my broken heart
