Have you forgotten me?
Once we were that close.
But that was long ago.
Once I was the centre of your world.
Have you outgrown me now?
Taking your first, faltering steps towards manhood,
you distanced yourself from your beginnings,
ashamed of the darkness,
intimidated by its immensity.
Stepping into the sunlight - Narcissus like -
you reflected upon your own nature
and thought it was everything -
a fitting object for worship.
You made a god in your own image
then crowned him with an omnipotence and benevolence
that have been at war with reason ever since.
As you gained mastery over matter
you came to despise me and all I stood for.
You have forgotten me-
well most of you have.
But I am still here -
the unacknowledged centre of your universe.
I remain the foundation
on which you were built.
You may deny me,
if I am brought to your attention,
but you will never escape.
You have forgotten me,
but you remain the focus of my attention.
And one day,
as I have programmed it,
you will turn around and come home
bearing the gifts of experience
that have made a Man of you.
You left as an ignorant youth.
But you will return steeped in Wisdom
fitted at last to be my consort -
My Son!
