I burnt flowers today,
On a grave which never existed.
The steam from my tears, as each one fell,
The smell
Of my own blood, cooking,
Rose into the polluted air
And as,
The feathers of humming birds
mixed together in the little flame.
Became a pile of bones.
A sacrifice to lay before the ocean…
My hope of seeking redemption
Also faded into cinders
I never said goodbye to you,
Never mentioned how I
Blushed as your hand,
Touched me, only once
Yours lips quietly apologizing
For that moment we shared
And now there lies a grave somewhere
Of an ash or two on the restless sea
And I don’t know where you are now
But I can hope for you, still
In the void that your life has left
Ah mera yar,
Allah Hafiz, wa Salaam
