Muse Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Muse

You said I was the only melody
that echoed within your secluded walls.
Tracing the notes from my lips
you held it close to your chest.
You told me to never go
I was your symphony of salvation.
I was always ready to sing to you
to sleep, to live, to heal you.
Playing my keys, singing tirelessly,
watching you live made me alive.

I was the melody that kept you together;
or at least what you once said.
But then another swept into the room
with a louder, enticing tune.
It hushed me, it took your breath away
the next moment, you weren’t in my arms.

The ballad that once held you
was nothing but a plain interlude.
I played, sung and breathed for you,
until it was her turn to take you away.

My melody slows down, I turn away;
I wasn’t the song, I wasn’t the muse.
I wasn’t your song,
I was never your muse.
