My Betrothed Poem by Walter Lane

My Betrothed

Rating: 5.0

Fairest maiden, I promise thee that
If you treat this peer of the realm
With dignity, love, loyalty and devotion
I shall in turn treat you as my prized possession
Meaning that, you will receive all my devotion
Love, loyalty, protection and a roof over your head
In addition, this gentle Knight shall provide you
With food for your stomach, clothes for your back
And the odd pence for you to put away for yourself.

You will never receive any harm from me nor
Hear a harsh word directed towards you from these lips
I will lay down my life for thee and should you
Become ill, this Knight will remain by your side
Until once again you become whole
My worldly possession will be yours should
I be slain while participating in a Joust
I will see to it that the residents of our castle
Treat you with the utmost respect and see to all
Your needs, wants and anything else your heart desires

This my dearest is my vow to you
