My Brother Poem by Nicole Barbour

My Brother

It takes my breath away, and stops my heart,
Remembering the way you chose to leave, it's ripping me apart.
I feel the pain, deep in my chest, I thought I knew you best.
Surely I'd know if something was wrong, surely I'd know.. but now your gone,
My brother, wake up please, talk to me.
Tell me it was a stupid mistake and you didn't want to go.
How could I not know?
My brother, open your eyes, move your toes, something to show you're still there, please don't go.
The hours become days, your body frozen as it lays.
The screams drown the room, but in a daze I stay.
bargaining, pleading, please bring him back I pray.
A god I laughed at, I refused to believe, but the only hope now on this evening.
One last test, we need to confirm. It's not looking good, my stomach squirms.
He made his choice, he couldn't stay, I'm sorry your brother has passed away.
