My First Date! Poem by Alexander Foald

My First Date!

Afloat in my arms, like wings of butterflies
These feelings that only heaven can see, now embracing me
Blushing flowers over my window, greeting a cheerful day
Like celebrating, I can feel their warmth under my skin

Clouds are coming along, while the wheels of my bike are driving
I can feel the wind blow behind my back, and I feel like flying
Crossing the bridge, I watch the birds race with the river’s current
Next to the end of the road, bathing in the sunlight, there stands my woman

Her umbrella reflects the jealous sun, while her hair pulls the air around
I can hear the sound of working men at a factory over the bay, eating lunch
Gulls shouting like rocking chair above our head as we walk to the ocean
Seeing fishermen as they’re spreading the net, we also count the fishes they catch

Waves pulling one another, trying to form a harmony
A young man rides over the tide, chasing down the glory
I hold her hands while we watch the sun rust at the horizon
Slowly, I pull her lips close and on a moment, I feel like the world is mine

The breeze is hanging around the bushes, making some kind of noise
Looks like it’s time to go home now before the dusk steals the night from us
Riding on my bike, she holds my waist tight
And as we move into the night, I’m wondering if today will never last
