“my Friend” Poem by Marisela Cano

“my Friend”

As I shut my eyes in the dark the only thing that comes into my mind is your dead body in the coffin.
You look so peaceful so happy that I wish I would be the there instead of here dreaming about you.
I want to be there with you.
As I wake up gasping for air I think if you are cold in the nights all alone in the ground 6 feet under.
I am so sorry for not being there when you needed me the most.
I hope you can see my tears rolling down my cheeks up there in heaven.
There was so many things I wanted to tell you before you were gone, but the heavens took you away to soon.
It wasn’t your turn, you had so much to live for.
The whole world might forget about you but I wont,
I will always remember you as the friend who made me a better soldier,
