My Heart Broke Ranks With Feeling Poem by Michael OSullivan

My Heart Broke Ranks With Feeling

My heart broke ranks
with feeling,
siding with my soul.

There it found
a lake so calm to float on
it could not breathe.

No citizen
of loneliness
would grant it breath.

Poor heart
are you doomed to perish
after all?

Is that why
your love-music
plays
eternally?

My soul returned
my troubled heart
with sorrow

reluctantly
surrendering
so pure a guest.

For my soul was born for sorrow
as my heart was born for death.
