My Last Request Poem by CARLOS P MARTINEZ

My Last Request

As I lay here near the end,
and my life is slowly passing by.
If I were granted one last request,
it would be,
to walk upon this earth,
hand in hand, just you and me.
The day you came into my life,
and you said you loved me true.
that's the day, I took you as my wife.
We walked down the aisle,
we took our wedding vows.
We walked hand in hand, just you and me.
The very day our Babe was born,
you left me to walk alone.
But you left, me something behind.
She is pretty as can be,
she reminds me of thee,
and we walk hand in hand, for you and me.
Our baby girl is now grown,
has a love of her own.
they sure look like you and me,
and they walk hand in hand, like you and me.
