'My Tortured Heart' Poem by Alvin Willis

'My Tortured Heart'

My heart lies still
As my mind rages war
Of love gone by
And not yet replace

The sheer terror
Of being alone & empty
Causes my sweat to retrieve
And it leaves me ice cold

If I would dare dream
Regret robs me void
Like an endless fall
With no end at sight

And it causes my soul
To run aimlessly & hopelessly
Into a bottomless hollow pit
Once was my heart
