My Word! Poem by SPENCER PHILLIP .

My Word!

The words given in all solemnity
lie scattered at my feet..
The words spoken in trust and faith
fly shattered in my face...
A bruised mind to carry
along with a rueful heart
cry out battered on the night.

The inscrutable Time has metamorphosed
my sacred vows into profane lies!
The hazy and blurred image
in the mirror
does not know me.
And, at the end of the day,
I'm only a well-meaning liar;
sentenced
to devise my own punishment!

I'm in chains today
for my sins of omission,
for my missed deeds!

Always at the mercy of words,
I entrust these words
to the winds of Grace!
Should they ever reach you,
just whisper them... once,
and forget...
for I, too, am only
a creation of words...
a mere shadow!
