My Yen Poem by Adedokun Abdurrahman

My Yen

I do not crave for beauty
That sends men reeling
That catches the eye
But, unseen to the blind
Sickening to the stars
But grotesque to Allah
.....
I do not crave for riches
That can't buy my wishes
And to my dream, it serves a shroud
And buries it beneath the clouds
I do not crave for worldly pomp or power
That would deny me the promised Jannah
......
What I crave, is beauty of the mind
Beauty in my deeds and the sight of Allah
Riches to disdain the temptations of the world
And freedom to think and say out my thoughts
To elude the sweltering heat of hell-fire
And be a slave to Allah, and not to my desire.
