Mycophilia Poem by Jacob Coleman

Mycophilia

Given a choice between a world without
Flowers or one without mushrooms I'd opt
For the fungus among us. Flowers flout!
What's more tempting than a plump red cap topped
With little white lumps? Not a tulip?
Or wolf's bane? Though fair, all three toxic be.
Shameless stinkhorn, there are none who will nip
From so phallic a shroom, not even me,
But if a rose cannot make me grin then
I'm glad the Old Hand has a funny side.
Let's sniff out some fresh puffballs to fry in
Butter, but first grab my mushroom field guide!
The Devil's Tooth looks more like strawberries
And cream: I think I'll add "Just for fairies."
