Soft ripples caress the river-bank
as it makes its lazy way to the sea.
A jewelled bird flashes across the surface,
and a gentle breeze ruffles the reeds.
Suddenly, unbidden, a poem takes root
for such sensations are its seeds.
(Needless to say, not all poems are sweet and lovely)
