Never A New Tomorrow Poem by Dan Brown

Never A New Tomorrow

I watch in awe as you suddenly switch
from the love of my life to a heartless bitch.
Your volcanic words erupt with force;
filled with emotion but it isn’t remorse.

You say it to hurt, to insult and maim
till I can no longer say your name
without spitting it into your face -
desperately trying to put you in place.

Our fury snowballs, entwines as one -
then all of a sudden everything’s gone.
Without direction, adrift and forlorn,
completely oblivious to the eye of the storm.

As we take this time to plan our attacks
and remember what the other lacks,
very briefly the sun comes out,
and casts long shadows of hazy doubt.

Gestures and words, they’re all rehearsed
to play the play of the bubble that burst.
Your promise to change is blown apart
for it’s photocopied and learnt by heart.

You’ve said it before, and you’ll say it again -
clean slates come with the next day’s rain.
But no matter how hard I beg, steal or borrow,
there never will be a new tomorrow.
