New Volume #2 Poem by Matthew English

New Volume #2

Your image fills me with happiness
like a new chapter in a story, our story.
Flicking through the pages to see what’s in store,
although it just makes me want you- more and more.
I read each word as we take each step-
hand in hand, falling further in love.

Though a story’s not complete without
a twist in plot- as quickly we were bonded
you fade away like an eraser to the graphite
of my mind… further and further.
I reach the back cover.

Do I read on or just wallow in self pity.
Chapter one I read, just like before-
naive to the plot that’s in store.
As character development goes- the
metaphor of time, I heal to find
that through the looking glass and defeat
is a new beginning- a new volume, a new lust.
