New World Poem by bryan wallace

New World

We don’t always see the beauty
That surrounds us each and every day.
It goes unappreciated and disregarded –
Sure we’re all far too busy to notice
The beauty that surrounds us every day.
Or if we see it far often then we stop
Seeing the small things that we used to.
With familiarity beauty becomes mundane –
Often taken for granted as we dream
Of holidays in some far distant land.

Perhaps the faraway hills look greener
As we haven’t seen them before -
So that we take the time to look
And notice all the little details -
All the beauty that we miss at home.

This small road on which I
Have travelled – many times before -
A road I cycled regularly.
Yet as I ride it today -
For the first time this year,
I can’t help but see all that I
Had forgotten - perhaps -
Never even noticed to begin with.

We live in what must surely be
One of the most beautiful places on earth.
Open our eyes and keep looking-
Don’t let familiarity turn beauty to mundane.
