Niemi Poem by Kyle Schlicher

Niemi

Niemi,
or what was
left of him
just
lay there.

The corpsman
had tried
his
best
but,
it was of no avail.

The chopper
arrived,
Mimi
was
bagged,
tagged
and
lifted
from the ground.

the sand was rusty red,
his shadow
imprinted
in the sand
and
somewhere deep,
deep
in
my
mind.
