Night Poem by Alan Harrell

Night

Rating: 5.0

Dusk settles in at the sun's fading light
Leaving no one in doubt that we now have the night.
The moon takes command of the dark, starry sky,
There's a calm in the heavens like a sweet lullabye.

As moon beams across the vast darkness they dance
Young lovers go strolling on the beaches of sand.
It's the magic of moonlight that comes with the night
That brings such a comfort along with delight.

To lie on the sand and gaze out at the sea
Opens doors to a vision only God can perceive.
Far beyond the horizon we know not what lies there
Just relax and imagine what could be if we dare.

Opalescence intrigues those who watch the night sky
Being peacful and quiet as clouds amble by.
Upon the ground moonlight shadows will fall here and there
Only randomly guided by the clouds in the air.

Gazing out on the water or up toward the sky
Can be seen an imaginative world in the night.
No boundaries or limits on what we can see
Just let the mind wander and be free to dream.

Oh what a wonderful sight can appear
When you look through the clouds to see what you can there.
Could it be just a fantasy or a fairytale told
That captures the attention of the young and the old?

As evening draws late and sleep beckons us in
We fall into slumber to dream once again.
Knowing not in our memory from where dreams do arise
We just enjoy all those visions that we may fantasize.

And so evening expires and the moon slips away
Night soon will be vanished by the coming of day.
The moon has relinquished the command of the sky
For a new day is dawning and the sun rises high.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was just an inspirational verse that came to me in a moment of poetical meditation. It all seemed to flow from one thought to the next and these eight verses completed my thoughts at that moment.
