No Stranger Love Poem by Mary Champion

No Stranger Love

(NO WONDER THIS WORLD IS SUCH A HELLUVA PLACE)

There was an old god, who lived up in the sky,
had billions of children, but Heaven knows why,
‘cos he hadn't a wife or a woman at all.
So they're motherless children -no wonder they fall.
An unmarried father with no state relief
will find it tough going and may come to grief.
He was saddened to see them all acting like villains -
bitching and cheating and fighting and killing.
He said 'I despair - they're a horrible lot.
But what can I do? They are all that I've got.'

Then, looking at one he was able to smile -
his one perfect son, without malice or guile.
He hit on a ruse that you might find perverse,
he'd kill off the best to help salvage the worst.
He'd torture the good to atone for the bad.
Not quite what you'd class an ideal, loving Dad.

But then Social Services heard of his plan,
said, 'No weirder love was envisaged by man.'
They took all the children and put them in care
so, there's no happy ending to this sad affair.
