and it is all right,
i can let this night
pass away quietly

without anyone knowing
how my thoughts tiptoed to
where your thoughts were.

but were you even there?
i did not see you
under the neon light

of my imagination.
where have you gone?
my hands search the night

in dreams - of you
sound asleep somewhere
like an innocent child.

i scribble these words
softly without making a sound
so as not to startle you.

i whisper to your heart
yet i don’t want you to wakeup -
i might find you indifferent.

sleep on.
