Nodding Dog Poem by Mary Champion

Nodding Dog

Yes, yes! Yes, yes.yes!
You don't have to guess.
My answers won't vary-
I can't do contrary.
To be, or not be-
I have to agree.
Whatever is said,
I just nod my head.

I have to concur,
although I'd prefer
to counter suggestions,
and answer some questions
by showing dissent,
in any event -
the option to say-
By no means, Jose!
I have to agree.
That's why they bought me,
I've only one motion
that shows my devotion.
When they disagree
they're counting on me,
each time that they fight
to say they're both right.

Yes, yes! Yes, yes, yes!
No more and no less.
And now I'm sustaining
repetitive straining.
I rise and I fall,
it's no fun at all.
God grant me the gift
of lateral shift.
