Not Ready To Dance Poem by Alexander Downie

Not Ready To Dance

I watch people move, they swirl and sway in time,
a brush of air passes as they flow in each others steps.
They smile and bow and lead each other onto the floor,
a brief escape from worries, while the band plays one more.

Lost in past lies I sit rooted to the spot fumbling for stability,
couples all around me spin and curtsy their way to calling beats.
I would dance but my world is clumsy and my feet won't move,
so best I leave when the lasts chords fade, I would trip you up.
